RTÉ apologises to Seán Gallagher over Frontline tweet

Broadcaster acknowledges failings in programme and pays "substantial damages" in settlement of legal action

Seán Gallagher satisfied with outcome of case against RTE

RTÉ has apologised to former presidential candidate Seán Gallagher and paid “substantial damages” to him.

Gallagher took legal action against the broadcaster over a reference to a tweet made in a Frontline programme broadcast during the 2011 presidential campaign, which involved a debate between all the candidates.

Today the case was settled, with an apology from RTÉ being read in court.
