Road safety lobby alarmed by Garda breath test revelations

The road safety group PARC said the public could have no trust in An Garda Siochána

Road safety campaigners have expressed concern that the false recording of almost one million breath tests by the Gardaí has concealed the true scale of drink-driving.

There has been an average of 8,133 drunk drivers arrested annually in recent years, which accounted for 2 per cent of all 400,000 drivers supposedly tested.

But given that half of all the breath tests reported by the Gardaí never actually took place, the level of drink-driving detected in the population...
