Retailers are lobbying the government to make online marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay responsible for any unpaid sellers’ Vat in the forthcoming budget.

They are facing unfair competition from online sellers outside the EU who are avoiding the 23 per cent Vat that should be charged on sales to Irish customers.
