Saoirse Ronan is in with a shot for an Oscar once again, and we all know what that means – the Brits will be claiming her as their own. But as a small country punching above its weight, we need to hold on to our heroes

Can we please keep Saoirse Ronan Irish this year? I'm getting in this entreaty before the Oscars take place in the early hours of Monday morning and Irish people wince once again as British media outlets compete with each other to suggest that Ireland is a cute hipster Lonodon borough in which Saoirse (who cares if her name is the Irish for freedom?) surely was raised.
