Detective chief superintendent Jack Reece who has died, drove the inquiry which convicted Patrick Magee of the bombing of the Grand Hotel in Brighton during the Conservative Party conference in 1984.

The bomb was detonated in a bathroom in the hotel in the early hours of October 12.

Reece was on the brink of retirement but set his team to work combing though the rubble until they eventually found a timing device lodged in a toilet bowl...
