New government drops Alan Kelly’s plans for mandatory green bin charges

Pay-by-weight system for household waste to be introduced from July 1

Under the pay-by-weight system households nationwide will be charged for every kilo of waste they produce from July 1 this year, on top of the regular bin company service charge. That included fees of a minimum of two cent per lift for green bins, along with higher minimum fees of 11 cent per lift for black bins for general household waste and six cent for brown bins for food waste.
