I Squared Capital to buy Viridian for reported €1 billion

The US equity firm expects to complete the transaction in the second quarter

US private equity firm, I Squared Capital, has agreed to buy Belfast-based energy group Viridian in an all-cash deal, reported to be worth around €1 billion.

Viridian, which was bought by Bahrain-based Arcapita in 2006, is a leading independent energy provider in the Irish market, providing around 20 per cent of domestic energy supply across Ireland.
