Huge drop in negative equity mortgages

Surging prices have dramatically reduced number

The number of mortgages in negative equity has dropped to fewer than 100,000, a plunge of more than two-thirds in three years.

Negative equity peaked in 2012 when 315,000 mortgages were underwater.

But surging property prices, particularly in the Dublin area, have dramatically reduced the number.
