Taoiseach Leo Varadkar had a meeting with the world’s biggest celebrity last week when he welcomed US president Donald Trump to Ireland. As he nears his second anniversary in office, Varadkar has had one-to-one encounters with pop stars like Kylie Minogue, the Pixies and LCD Soundsystem, as well as Hollywood star George Clooney. But the Trump encounter was not a photoshoot that he or his team wanted - at all.
