Inflation at 0.2% in May

Consumer prices in the 19-nation euro zone rose by 0.2 per cent in May for a 0.3 per cent year-on-year reading, according to the European Union’s statistics agency Eurostat.

The rise comes after prices in April had remained flat.

Eurostat said that more expensive food, tobacco and services outweighed the impact of low energy prices which pushed the index down. Core inflation, which excludes unprocessed foods and energy, rose 0.1 per cent for a 0.9...
