Elaine Byrne: Culture of medical emigration bleeds us of funds and consultants

Irish taxpayers spend €90 million every year to educate doctors – many of whom emigrate and never return

According to a tweet by the Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) earlier this month, there are 918 permanent consultant posts either vacant or filled on a temporary or agency basis in Ireland.
