It has been another gloomy week in the tech sector, with Microsoft and Google both announcing large-scale job cuts across their global operations.

Microsoft said it plans to cut more than 10,000 jobs from its global workforce, while Sundar Pichai, the Google chief executive, wrote to staff on Friday to inform them the tech company will shed up to 12,000 jobs over the coming months.
