Editorial: Public deserves transparency on how officials come to decisions

That the Department of Enterprise held recent meetings with some of the largest companies in the world in complete privacy shows that the government has not yet understood the need for transparency in national policy

Last week, during a highly publicised appearance by Frances Haugen, the Facebook whistleblower, in front of MEPs, the nature of Ireland’s relationship with big tech was brought up.

“I think there is also that conflict of interest factor, that Ireland benefits a lot from having those tech companies there,” Haugen said.
