Editorial: Major overhaul of planning laws will require some difficult trade-offs

Just over a year ago, the government committed to a major review of Ireland’s planning laws, with the intention of simplifying, consolidating and reforming what had become an impractically complex legal area.

That work by the attorney general has now reached its end, and as reported in the Business Post today, the new Planning and Development Act will be brought to cabinet on December 13 as a fully drafted piece of legislation.
