Reports that Intel was planning to cut thousands of jobs globally on foot of falling revenues and tightening margins has sparked concern both locally and nationally

Fears over potential job losses at Intel’s Kildare campus this weekend have again highlighted the importance of foreign direct investment into Ireland, and the dependence of communities on the employment it creates.

There is no indication that Intel will remain anything other than a major employer in Ireland, with work ongoing on a €12 billion expansion of its Leixlip campus, where it already had long-established facilities.
