Editorial: Government needs to prove it can respond to the housing crisis

The Minister for Housing is promising an overhaul of the planning process and a new Bord Pleanála, but he needs to ensure that this is not merely a rejigging and rebranding of the current system

Even the most basic analysis of the key indicators reveals a simple fact – Ireland’s housing crisis isn’t going away any time soon. From record homeless figures in December to falling housing commencements over recent months, the chronic shortage of housing seems to be getting worse rather than improving.
