Editorial: Germany is right to support Ukraine in her hour of need

A few days after Russian troops invaded Ukraine, the chancellor of Germany acknowledged the fateful nature of the moment. It was, Olaf Scholz said, a zeitenwende, a turning point. He was talking about the reverberations of the war for Germany’s foreign and defence policy, which was entrenched in decades of well-intentioned pacifism and the avoidance of military confrontations.
