In his five years as minister for foreign affairs, Simon Coveney ably played his part in guiding Ireland through one of the most fraught processes in the state’s geopolitical history, as Britain left the EU. There are still ongoing issues with the Northern Ireland protocol but, by and large, a worst-case Brexit scenario has been avoided.
