Editorial: Boris Johnson makes a tawdry exit, leaving a toxic legacy

Ireland must hope that the next British leader will be made of more serious stuff and will be willing to work to repair the damaged relations with this country and the EU

Boris Johnson resigned as British prime minister on Thursday as he occupied the job – in a cloud of half-truths, denials, victimhood and dubious assertions. That was how he lived in the witless and absurdly overblown psychodrama that enveloped his three years as prime minister. In Johnson’s world, everything is always someone else’s fault. Now the tawdry and fitting end has come, and he has nobody to blame but himself.
