Census figures show big increases in public transport usage, but car is still king

Though there has been a big increase in the number of people cycling, the car is still the most popular mode of transport.

In April 2016, the total number of people commuting each day was 2.96 million, an increase of 9.3 per cent from the previous census in 2011.

The number of people travelling to work was 1,875,773, up 10.7 per cent.
