Draghi's QE extension falls short of forecasts

Asset purchases will continue beyond March 2017 if necessary

European Central Bank president Mario Draghi has said that the bank will extend quantitative easing - the programme of bond buying designed to buoy up markets - until the end of March 2017, or beyond if necessary.

Draghi also said that it will broaden the asset purchase programme to include debt issued by regional and local governments.
