Denis O'Brien loses Dáil statements case

Judge rules that courts' role in such cases 'extremely restricted'

The High Court has ruled that statements made in the Dáil are immune from court interference or judicial condemnation.

The businessman had been trying to stop RTÉ from broadcasting details of his banking affairs.

Today, the High Court ruled that the TDs’ utterances did not determine the outcome of the case against the broadcaster.
