Councillors’ pay review will not be completed before elections
A barrister-led review of the pay and role of county councillors will not be ready before the local elections, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Sara Moorhead SC has been working on the review since June 2018 at the request of Minister for Local Government John Paul Phelan.
The purpose of the review is to decide whether Ireland’s 949 councillors - who work across 31 different local authorities - ought to get a pay rise.
