Hundreds of vacant homes have been brought back into use after anonymous tip-offs from neighbours.

The VacantHomes.ie website was launched two years ago on behalf of the country’s 31 councils to try to identify homes that could be used to tackle the housing shortage.

Since then it has received over 3,000 anonymous tip-offs which have led to between 250 and 300 empty homes being brought back into use by either councils or their original owners.
