Cabinet to give clearance for Aer Lingus bid after Easter
The government is expected to approve IAG’s €1.3 billion bid for Aer Lingus in its first cabinet meeting after the Easter break, with IAG poised to offer a number of concessions and sweeteners to secure the deal.
With talks continuing between the government and IAG over the weekend, it is understood that IAG boss Willie Walsh is prepared to offer increased commitments in relation to the main sticking point on the deal, the valuable Heathrow slots.
Walsh has previously offered a five-year commitment, but the government has sought ten. Discussions this weekend are focusing on the possibility of IAG extending its proposed guarantee to seven years.
