Bus Éireann has 250 ‘idle’ drivers in nationwide depots

Troubled transport giant Bus Éireann maintains a constant pool of 250 idle drivers in its depots and garages, this newspaper has learned.

The 250 drivers, out of a total driver pool of 1,359, are kept in reserve in garages around the country as part of their normal rostered hours to cover annual leave, sick leave and auxiliary demand.

The spare drivers are set to become a key battleground as management instigates an overtime ban and full roster...
