Health insurer Vhi has reported an after-tax surplus of €45.5m for last year, down from €54.4m in 2014. It reported improved financial reserves of €521m, 12 per cent higher compared with the previous year.

Vhi also recorded an increase in membership for the first time in eight years to just over one million health insurance customers, helped bysteps to encourage young people to take out private health insurance.
