UNICEF: Third of Irish children suffer from material deprivation

Damning report reveals children are the most neglected in Irish society

A third of all Irish children live in materially deprived households, a disturbing new report has found.

The findings are contained in a new UNICEF study on how inequality affects children in high income countries.

While Ireland is placed seventh out of 41 EU/OECD countries across all dimensions of inequality, UNICEF’s Report Card 13 reveals that 30 per cent of Irish children suffer “material deprivation” and lack essential items.
