The United Nations has warned that plans to return migrants from Europe to Turkey could contravene international law.

The UN said it had serious concerns about the move – despite EU leaders hours earlier describing its proposed deal with Turkey as a "breakthrough".

It came after a meeting in Brussels on Monday agreed the broad outline of a deal to stop migrants entering Europe from Turkey.
