Alexander De Croo, the Belgian prime minister, has described the shutdown of a "national conservatism" conference in Brussels unacceptable and unconstitutional.

His comments follow dramatic scenes at the Claridge venue in the Belgian capital on Tuesday, when riot police blocked the entrance to an event at which former Ukip party leader Nigel Farage was speaking.
