Lottery casts net wide to secure extra gamblers

The National Lottery is set to launch a series of online games in an effort to increase its share of the Irish gambling market, writes Ian Kehoe.

The lottery has received permission from Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan to operate a pilot programme offering National Lottery games online. A limited number of games have been trialled, including a new blackjack game.

Based on the success of the pilot programmes, the lottery will then consider offering the games online on a full-time basis. Such a move would require formal sanction by the Department of Finance.
