Seven Irish novels longlisted for Dublin Literary Award
The winner of the €100,000 prize will be announced on June 9 next year
Seven Irish novels are among the 160 titles nominated by libraries worldwide for the €100,000 International Dublin Literary Award.
The longlist for the award, the world's most valuable annual literary prize for a single work of fiction, includes 53 translated novels and works by 44 American, 25 British, 10 Canadian, 10 Australian, six German and three South African authors. The titles were nominated by libraries in 118 cities and 44 countries worldwide.
The Irish titles nominated for the 2016 award includeThe Temporary Gentleman by Sebastian Barry;Academy Street by Mary Costello;The Undertaking by Audrey Magee;Unravelling Oliver by Liz Nugent;The Thrill of it All by Joseph O’Connor;Nora Webster by Colm Tóibín andThe Diary of Mary Travers by Eibhear Walshe.
The winner, which will be announced by a judging panel which includes Irish writer Carlo Gébler and British novelist Ian Sansom, will be announced on June 9, 2016.
The award, previously known as the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, is sponsored by Dublin City Council.
