Prescription charges set to be cut in Budget 2017
Simon Harris to seek reduction in talks next month
Medical card holders are set to get their prescription charges reduced in the forthcoming budget.
The current €2.50 charge is levied on each prescribed medicine dispensed and is capped at €25 per month per person or family.
Former health minister James Reilly pledged to abolish the charge, which was 50 cent five years ago, but ended up increasing it five-fold for the country’s 1.7 million medical card holders.
