Minister for Finance Michael Noonan has described Bank of Ireland’s decision to ban withdrawals below €700 in branches as ‘surprising and unnecessary’.

Under new rules that will come in later this month, and which are designed to encourage customers to use electronic banking, Bank of Ireland tellers will only process withdrawals in-branch if they are for sums of greater than €700.
