The Executive Council of the farming body will elect a new president, following last night's resignation of Eddie Downey.

Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) held a 17-hour emergency meeting last night where motions were tabled seeking the resignation of the entire Executive Board. RTÉ.ie reports that after heated exchanges a decision was made to park the issue.
