More than 2,300 mortgages approved on average in April
New figures show the average value of an approval rose to a record high of €192,000
More than 2,300mortgages were approved per month on average in the three months ending in April, up 18.7 per cent on the month but down 1.9 per cent year-on-year, new figures show.
The latest mortgage approval figures from the Banking & Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI) found the value of mortgages approved rose by 19.7 per cent on the month but was up by more modest 0.2 per cent on the year.
However, the BPFI noted that the sharp rise in April came aftera relatively weak first quarter, in which values fell 14 per cent year-on-year, impacted by the rush of transactions at the beginning of 2015 ahead of new Central Bank rules.
