When Shane Lowry walked off the 18th green at Oakmount near Pittsburgh on Sunday evening he had a haunted look.
He knew that in his final erratic round of golf at the US Open, he had just blown his best ever chance of winning a major. The last thing he could possibly have wanted was to board a private jet to Dublin, with a bevy of golfing greats. But board the aircraft he did and the next morning he was teeing off at Royal Dublin along withRory McIlroy and the legendary Jack Nicklaus.
