Survivors have received letters seeking further costs
A solicitors’ firm is seeking additional legal fees from the state compensation awards given to survivors of symphysiotomy.
The state set up a €34 million compensation scheme two years ago for women who underwent the procedure of symphysiotomy, which has been described as a “barbaric act” by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
The maximum award under the scheme was €150,000 and the legal fees payable on top of this were capped at €6,000.
