Stop downplaying hospital waiting times
Claims that waiting lists are improving are not supported by the data and overall trends, but ever-changing targets facilitate such lame assertions by politicians and the Department of Health
The waiting lists faced by patients in Ireland are unparalleled in western Europe.
Despite efforts to downplay just how serious – and indeed dangerous – our waiting times actually are, the figures speak for themselves.
In January 2012, there were 59,386 on inpatient and day case waiting lists.
- 13,704 were waiting longer than six months
- 907 were waiting longer than 12 months
In January 2015, there were 63,740 on waiting lists.
