The European Commission’s ruling that Apple must pay Ireland €13 billion plus interest in unpaid taxes creates a huge political headache for the government.

On the face of it, this expected windfall should be welcomed with open arms by the bean counters.

It should also be good news for a minority government that has had little to shout about since its formation four months ago.
