Fewer than half of all workers have a pension

The proportion of workers with a pension fell to 47% in late-2015 from 51% in 2009

More than a third of workers expect the state pension to be their main source of income

Fewer than half of all workers aged between 20 and 69, or 47 per cent, had apension in the fourth quarter of last year, down from 51 per cent six years earlier, new figures show.

The data, from the Central Statistics Office, found that three out of every 10 self-employed people had pension coverage, down from 36 per cent in the same period in 2009. This was also well below the pension coverage figure foremployees, which stood at 50.2 per cent.
