Lenders are offering cashback deals to homebuyers - but some are not as enticing as they seem

There are still a few months to go before the Central Bank publishes a review of its mortgage lending rules. But, among mortgage experts, the consensus view is that the rules are here to stay.

As it stands, and as it is likely to remain, would-be home buyers need to amass substantial deposits to satisfy the rules.

First-time buyers hoping to purchase a €300,000 house, for example, need at least a €38,000 deposit.
