Figures released this morning show that Britain's labour market was strong ahead of the country’s decision to vote to leave the European Union.

The unemployment rate fell to 4.9 per cent in the three months to the end of May, the lowest since the third quarter of 2005, according to the Office for National Statistics. Economists in a Bloomberg survey had expected the rate to stay at 5 per cent. The number of ...
