New figures show that the British building industry fared better than expected in the wake of the Brexit vote.

Construction output was unchanged in July compared with June, the Office for National Statistic said. Economists had expected a decline of 0.5 per cent.

Separate figures showed the country's trade deficit narrowing as exports rose.
