Money is proving tight for many people around Ireland. With less to spend, consumers are becoming savvier about their spending.
So how can a company let consumers know of a discount without spending big on advertising?
Voucherpages.ie is a Dublin-based discount voucher directory. The website has a choice of discount vouchers, coupons and deals for a variety of products and services across Ireland.
“We are not a daily deals site,” said the site's founder, Ronan Hickey. “Companies get the control. We don’t insist they give a minimum discount. It allows companies to promote profitable deals.”
Users can browse the website by business type or location to find discount vouchers. Consumers can either print or send a voucher by text and purchase an item in-store.
“Consumers are looking for value” said Hickey. “For businesses, they are trying to generate sales. Price is the number one factor when consumers switch supplier. We tap into those areas.”
Based in NovaUCD, the website was set up by Hickey. A UCD graduate, Hickey has previously worked for Truvo and Vodafone.
Launched in July 2011, the website is also releasing an iPhone app on Wednesday. March 21st. The app will pick up a user's location and find vouchers for companies in the area.
The website does not take a commission but charges an annual listing fee. “Businesses are seeing up to 120 redemptions per month,” said Hickey.
Voucherpages.ie recently took on two sales staff. With the launch of the app the company is looking to actively promote the website.
Hickey invested his own money in the venture and received a feasibility grant from the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Enterprise Board. The website has spent the past few months building up content and improving its search engine profile.
Clients of the website include Dell, Vodafone and Tesco. The website also allows users to review and comment on a listed company.
