IFUT threatens Croke Park TCD pullout

The Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) has threatened to ballot for withdrawal from the Croke Park Agreement if a Labour Court ruling is unheeded.

In a statement, IFUT said that it will schedule "an immediate ballot of its members in TCD for a full withdrawal of all concessions given to the college as part of the Public Service Agreement to date, if the college does not confirm its acceptance of a Labour Court Recommendation on redundancies by June 28th next".

Referring to a Labour Cort ruling on April 30th, the union said that TCD is in breach of the Public Service Agreement Labour Court by having proceeded with compulsory redundancies against three IFUT members.

"The PSA Implementation Body has clarified that the decision is binding on the parties unless they put themselves outside of the PSA," said Mike Jennings, general secretary of IFUT.

"I understand that this is the unanimous view of all members of the Implementation Body of Union and Management. I also understand that the Department of Education has written to TCD to inform them the decision is binding.”
