Entries for the annual global James Dyson Award for inventors open tomorrow. The award invites engineering and design students from 18 countries to submit their invention ideas by August 2nd, 2012.

A shortlist of three Irish entries, chosen by a panel of local judges, will compete from entries across the world for a prize of £10,000 (€12,000) to develop their invention and an additional £10,000 will go to their university department.

Entrants can submit footage, images and sketches of their ideas to the website, [www.jamesdysonaward.org](www.jamesdysonaward.org), along with stories detailing their design process and inspiration.

The award is open to any university level student of product design, industrial design or engineering (or graduate within four years of graduation) who is studying or studied in Ireland or 17 other countries (for the full list, see the [website](www.jamesdysonaward.org).
